The lecture discusses that employees should not work for four days a week, which deffers from the main idea in the reading material that people can work less in order to be satisfied.
In the first place, the professor hold an opinion that the less work for the staff will influence the profits of the company. While the reading passage hold a different view that the shorter workweek of the employees will increase the company’s profit. The professor endorses that adding new staff means adding more training and salaries as well as more office spaces in the companies. In the way, companies’ profit must be influenced.
What is more, the professor hold the opinion that hiring new people is costly for companies because there will be more options for the superintendents. Besides, they will prefer to choose people who would like to work for five days and ask for more money rather than employ those who are willing to work for four days and ask for less money. However, in the reading material, it is said that if fullwork staff begin to work less, they may share their workload together, so that they will gain a faster efficiency.
Finally, in the listening material, the professor makes a point that there will be more risks when workers work less. Since they work less than before, the efficiency will decrease resulting in less quality and capacity in working. Thus, people are intended to lose their job. In the contrary, the reading passage holds that when people have less work to do, they are able to persue more relaxation and devote themselves more in their spare time.
