作文大讨论

我这有篇老师布置的作文,题如下,字数要求400单词,同T的独立写作部分差不多.
题目很有趣,我想作为T中一道论人的品质题也可以这样出.
如 What do you think the most important quality of a student/ a businessman/ a person is in the modern society?

我已经写了一大半了,例子和结尾写不好了:L        ,各位仁兄给些参考吧,(中英文皆可)

Statement:  Joseph Epstein, a famous writer, once said, "We decide what is important and what is trivial in life. We decide so that what makes us significant is either what we do or what we refuse to do. But no matter how indifferent the universe may be to our choices and decisions, these choices and decisions are ours to make. We decide. We choose, so are our lives formed. In the end, forming our own destiny is what ambition is about."

Do you agree or disagree? What's your opinion? Give examples or details to support your idea.

    Joseph Epstein, a famous writer, once said, "We decide what is important and what is trivial in life. We decide so that what makes us significant is either what we do or what we refuse to do. In the end, forming our own destiny is what ambition is about." Yet opinions may vary on this statement. In my opinion, I agree to Epstein's view, because we need ambition to guide a direction in our life.
     Ambition is the destiny in our own life. It is with ambition that we have confidence in doing everything no matter what we are, and what background we have. So ambition has no relation with outside surroundings, but with our innate desire. Even one who has physical deficiency will have confidence in himself if he has a life goal. The Napoleon, the greatest political and military leader in French history, never worried about his appearance shortcoming—being very short as a military commander at war. Also, the attack of poliomyelitis in 1921 made Franklin Roosevelt, the American 32nd president, permanently crippled and unable to stand or walk. However, he never lost his courage, optimism or desire for a political career. His personal struggles transformed the once supercilious young man into one of the most outgoing political figures of the century and one of the most influential and controversial US presidents. So ambition is the choice made by ourselves.
   Why do we regard ambition as something very important and necessary? If ambition is to be well regarded, the rewards of ambition---control over one’s destiny and being more competitive in the society---must be deemed worthy of the sacrifices made on ambition’ s behalf. The life experiences have weaved with our dreams that account the reason why we live. With ambition, we will be more hard working, because we know that all of our efforts will finally help inject force realizing our dream. We will optimistically confront and solve the problem with confidence, despite the reality is sometimes hard to tackle.

还有为什么是once supercilious young man，罗斯福以前很自大么？


总体来说我觉得写得很好，句法和内容都很充实，非常不错，不过有点瑕疵就是ambition在文章中出现太多次，最好找个词适当的替换一下，不过我暂时还想不到合适的词，呵呵

混沌给的这个论据挺好  a characteristic of all businessman,有例子吗??  需要details and example.

我觉得ambition有时可以理解为  ----梦想.理想, 或者人生目标 life goal,
至于毛毛说  ambition 用的太多了, 我查了金山  :aspiration 或者可以替代.
aspiration 用法如下"

A strong desire for high achievement.
建立丰功伟绩的强烈愿望
An object of such desire; an ambition.
渴望达到的目标；雄心

我把后部分写了, 看看和全文是否连贯??  我总觉得有点不连贯...
     
      In addition, people are under heavy pressure of fierce competing in the modern society, so we should have a clear job goal and working plan as soon as possible. Compared with many ordinary people, those who have great ambition are easier successful in their careers.

       However, being ambitious doesn’t mean that we make a goal without thinking the possibility of realization. Suppose one is very ambitious and has a dream of becoming an emperor of ancient China, the chances are that that fantasy will never come true. Thus, what kind of ambition we should have depends on the basic situation of reality, and if not, only daydream.

例子可以不用伟人阿，写一个你身边的人的例子也ok阿，是吧，新东方老师不是说还有xiao qiang, wang cai 么，呵呵

有关教育的话题
大一在《大学生》中看过的一篇文章，现在翻出来居然发现如此有用，文章不仅思想深刻，现在写作还能派上用场。
题目：Knowledge Its Own End  以知识本身为目的
作者 约翰。亨利。纽曼（John Henry Newman,1801—1890）英国著名教育学家和作家。
纽曼为牛津大学红衣主教，1873年他出版了《大学理念》一书。他倡导的教育理念并非是现在与工作挂钩的教育（job—oriented）,而是通才教育（Liberal Education）,其实这种教育理念发源于
Aristotle而在纽曼这里得到继承和发扬。他写道“here are two methods of Education; the end of the one is to be philosophical, of the other to be mechanical; the one rises towards general ideas, the other is exhausted upon what is particular and external.
注：这里philosophy或者liberal knowledge 或者education都是一个意思。是不同于art(技术) 的教育或知识。

知识的分类是19世纪中叶西方热烈讨论的一个教育话题，没想到21世纪的中国大学生因为腰围靠老外的试去替他们继续思考这个问题。当然思考出头绪来，不仅铸造出高分作文，而且教育问题在中国的教育体制中也是需要我们年轻有为的知识分子，祖国的未来去深思的。

纽曼的知识分类：一种是有用的知识useful knowledge,类似古人说的奇迹淫巧。而另一类就是他倡导的通识liberal knowledge ,与其说是一种知识，倒不如说是一种学习能力。他这本书所谈探讨的就是如何让大学培养学生思考、推理、比较、辨别和分析及审美能力的场所，务必和培养什么政治家、科学家、法学家的这类职业培训学校区分开来。（我想以后有机会我会看这本书的）

学校与其让学生学习种类繁多的课程-----艺术、人类学、到物理、生物科学，还不如只让学生们学习针对以后工作而开设的有针对性的课程。这样的几种方式顺应了目前工作为主的社会。

Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of the students.
只针对每个学生的需求和兴趣，教育才有真正的意义。

楼主，，貌似t的作文和g 的还不太一样，，
t不要求逻辑性太强去推导一个话题
当然中间是有很多相通的

好像以前 g 都是用孙远的较多，现在不清楚情况如何

刚才先扫了第一句，如果题目是这样写的话，你全篇的引用而占据了大幅的字数，会不会有点不妥。你可以说 Opinions may vary on that statement of Joseph Epstein. However, his view touches me, since I always believe people need ambition to guide a direction in their life.
