老托第175题~~
175 Some students like classes where teachers lecture (do all of the talking) in class. Other students prefer classes where the students do some of the talking. Which type of class do you prefer? Give specific reasons and details to support your choice.
Confucius, the greatest philosopher and educator of ancient China, once said, education is not a simple process of output and input, but a matter of interactive communication with heart and soul, with mutual dependence and trust. Thus, in my opinion, I prefer classes where the students do some of the talking.

First of all, in this way, students can give out their feedback to teachers immediately when they are puzzled. Since not all students are genius, sometimes they can not understand what the teachers are talking about or discussing about. Thereafter, a channel to show their puzzle is necessary. That’s why now some teachers will ask questions, such as “is there any question”, to lead the students to talk about what troubles them. On the other hand, the feedback can not only suggest how much the students understand the content, but benefit teachers as well. After getting it, the teacher will know what content puzzles students most. Consequently, he or she can improve the skill of teaching, so that the teacher can be better and better. Generally speaking, old teachers can deal with the classes better than young ones for they having many experiences as mentioned above. And some schools always hold some teaching seminars to promote their level, in which all the teachers can share their successful teaching experiences.

Furthermore, though the students might have no doubt, they may have some new ideas about the content. It is true that some smart students can get clearly the teachers’ points. Rarely can they be puzzled. However, these students may also have some feedback of different viewpoints. As known to all, Einstein had been such a different boy from others that he always asked some strange questions. As a result, his teachers were all bothered. Therefore, they hooted him out of the school instead of giving him a chance to state his own point.

Of course, I do not mean that the students should do all of the talking in class. For on that condition, the essence of education will be weakened. If there were no teachers’ lecture, the students would have got little knowledge from school.

With all aspects considered, I am fully convinced that teachers and students should all do part of talking in class. For most of the time, we are always on the arduous journey in seeking what roles teachers and students should play in class. Since teaching and learning are all a process of communicating, it’s no doubt that everyone in class should be endowed with the right to raise an issue.
