DO YOU AGREE OR NOT AGREE THAT NOWADAYS PEOPLE ARE TOO MUCH EMPHASIZED ON APPEARANCE AND FASHION
How much does the fashion industry influence our society has long been an issue debated in both the private and public sectors all over the world, especially in the industrialized countries. Some people argue that because of the great investment in advertisements by the big fashion companies, too much attentions has been paid on fashion by people.
However, a recent survey by five top Chinese universities such as Beijing University and Tsinghua University shows that the number of people who care more on fashion today has changed little in the past ten years; and only 5% of the people said the appearance played a key role when they making friends. I am not a total believer in data, but I do believe data tell the truth this time. That is, people are not too emphasized on fashion and appearance.
For most people, knowledge and skill are still the decisive factors in their life. Except for few special jobs like models and actors, appearance can do little in the hire and promotion of one person. For example, in the resume people always want to tell the possible employer that they are so talented and graduated from famous universities instead of how fashionable they are. No matter how fashion changes, only with excellent skill and a large variety of knowledge, can an empoyer be cherished.
More importantly, most people pay attention to fashion and appearance, but only a few of them realy pay much for them. For example, I subscribe a fashion magzine, but I seldom follow the instructions of this magzine. Usually I just go through it and throw it away. Every person knows that it is not only too expensive but also time consuming too keep up with the fashion. Similarly, many people would like to see a fashion show on the screen, but are there any ordinary people who buy the clothes on the show? I guess no.
Therefore, although fashion seems everywhere in our life, but generally speaking, people do not pay too much attention to it.
