Higher animals like dogs ,horses even human being look like their parents when they are born .There are some [color=red]minor[/color] changes that [color=red]occur as[/color] these animals grow .But the basic form and the structure stay the same .Now this is called direct development which is quite different from [b]metamorphosis[/b] .When lower animals like [color=red]ants[/color] flies or [color=red]sea urchins[/color] [color=red]emerge[/color] from the eggs they don't like at all like their parents .Only after [color=red]series[/color] of major changes do they take on characteristics of their parents .Butterfly and moth porive the best example fo what biologist call complete metamorphosis because they pass though 4 distinct stages of ex[color=red]trem[/color] chages .Here is the [color=red]illustration[/color] of a batterful at each 4 stages of complete metanorphosis .They first stage is the egg .Butterfly usually lay their eggs on the plants .The plants provide food when they transform into larvae the second stages  .After about months [color=red]in this[/color] stage a butterfly larva [color=red]spins the cocoon of sick[/color] around itself. A [b]larva[/b] structure in the cocoon is also called [b]pupa [/b].So it is know as the pupal stage .The pupil stage is the [color=red]period of[/color] inactivity when larva structure [color=red]evolve [/color]into adult structure .Depending onthe species the pupil stage can last anywhere from a few days to several months when the pupa finally mature into the adult butterful it pushes its way out of its [b]cocoon[/b] [color=red]on a twig or tree land[/color] and pumps loods into the[color=red] trunk[/color] and wing until they are full size and strong .Now some insects like [color=red]grasshopper[/color] and [color=red]roaches[/color] have only 3 stages ——egg ,larva and adualt .When an animal skips the pupil stage it's called incomplete metamorphosis .It's not only insects that undergo metamorphosis .[color=red]Frog and toads[/color] are the most well know wxample of other form -changing animals .Frog [color=red]lay their [/color] egg in water and the eggs hatch into tadpole .A tadpole [color=red]looks more[/color] like fish because has tail and no legs .But[color=red] it [/color]gratually loses its tail and develops into a four-legged frog.[/size]
