Why Do People Attend College
Today, more and more students choose to attend college or university after they graduated from high school. The motive varies from individual to individual. Students who have made such choice, however, often can be roughly divided into two groups.
The first group of student made a decision to attend college or university involuntarily, merely because they are told that they ought to, and they are actually the majority of the students. Most of them were still immature, and had a vague vision of their future. At most, they knew attaining higher education would be beneficial for them, in that their parents and our society had told them so. In a sense, they didn't choose at all. Actually one of them were forced to do so by their parents, if they had had a chance to make a free choice, they would have chosen to work, hoping they could make money as much and as early as possible, therefore they could be independent(at least financially) -- a big dream that virtually every one had once had. Unfortunately, most of those lucky, naive boys and girls, who would not have opportunity to attend the college or university if they had no parents, are unaware of their luck at all, and they will continue to muddle along without any aim throughout their college lives. One day they will graduate from college, if they find out the fact that securing a job is not that easy after 4-yaer education as might have been imagined, they will choose to apply a master's degree. They are much the same as those unconscious species n nature, running their own course, and never have a real ability to think.
Another group of students, who are virtually minority in quantity, know exactly what they are doing. Fortunately, more and more students will eventually join this group during 4-year process. Answering the question why they attend college or university, they may say, to have more fun, to seek new experience, to increase knowledge, to enhance interrelationship, to prepare career, and so on. Although the answers are diversified, those students, however, have one thing in common: they are expecting a better future. They are consciously or unconsciously putting their time and energies into study as an investment, hoping one day they could reaping a harvest. Sober enough as they are, they never spend time on part time job unless it is absolutely necessary to do so. They know exactly the concept of opportunity cost. They know learning any craft consumes time, but will have a better reward in the future. They refuse to enjoy immediate pleasure which in fact cost much more before long. Although most of them are still depending on their parents for daily expenditure, they are in a sense independent, at least, they are on the right track to be independent individuals.

:) Is it written by Teacher Li?
Unfortunately, most of those lucky, naive boys and girls, who would not have opportunity to attend the college or university if they had no parents, are unaware of their luck at all, and they will continue to muddle along without any aim throughout their college lives.
